How do I register for an eLearning course?
It is imperitive that the student be registered under their own AWWA account. DO NOT register one indivdual under another's account - doing so will void all completion and certificates. Add the desired course to cart, and checkout. You will be required to login - be sure to use the correct account. Contact service@awwa.org for login assistance if needed.
When the transaction is complete, an email receipt will be sent to you giving details about where to login on the website so you may begin your course(s) immediately. You will need to read and agree to the User Agreement terms before you will be allowed to begin any course.
What is a self-paced course?
Self-paced courses are delivered exclusively online, and progress is driven solely by the student. This format allows the student to move through course content at his/her own pace, taking into consideration the individual’s knowledge level and capacity. Self-paced courses can be completed anytime during a 90-day period after registration. These courses may include presentations, pre-recorded audio, supporting articles, online learning activities, videos, quizzes and evaluations. View AWWA's full list of courses here
What is an instructor-led course?
Instructor-led courses are delivered exclusively online with some pacing, interaction and direction provided by a facilitator. These courses are delivered at set times during the year and comprise pre-recorded presentations, online learning activities, videos, quizzes and evaluations. Recognized experts on a topic are available to regularly answer the students’ questions, grade homework and provide feedback on student progress via discussion boards and emails.

Water Treatment Operator Certificate Program (WTO)
Do I have to take the Level 1 before I can take Level 2 or 3?
Yes. All courses within the water treatment programs (WTO) are sequential and build upon the previous course. This series of courses educates attendees on the basic concepts related to water treatment plant operators. The courses focus on the critical information operators need to protect public health, including job functions and responsibilities, regulations, and conventional and advanced water treatment processes and procedures. Taking these courses provides you with the information you need to pass the appropriate certification exam, gain employment, and/or advance your career within the water industry. This series takes into consideration the Association Board of Certification Need-to-Know Criteria for water treatment operators. The courses are designed to be taken in sequential order.
Where do I begin?
Step 1: All learners MUST create their own AWWA profile. AWWA courses are associated with individual learners. Registration for a course must be done through the learner’s profile, especially if the individual is claiming credit hours.
Step 2: Are you in need of continuing education units? If so, we recommend verifying which AWWA courses are approved in the state in which you require units. It is the learner’s responsibility to research their state-specific credit requirements.
AWWA submits many online courses to states for pre-approval and webinars based on the attendance demand. To find out which trainings are pre-approved in your state, please email Education Services and include your AWWA Customer # and Licensing Agency State.
